Question for September 19 - October 10, 1999:

Which would you rather be trapped in a gymnasium-sized room with...

An Angry Elephant

OR

2 Wild Boars?

Details:

  • Continuing last week's circus theme (except for the wild boars part). Some scenarios require a lot of explanation. This one doesn't. Either 1 angry elephant, or 2 wild boars (wild = angry. Didn't want to use too many adjectives.)

RESULTS:

Angry Elephant: 7
2 Wild Boars: 2

My comments: I thought about making just 1 wild boar but decided that didn't balance the elephant well enough. I see that 2 didn't either. Maybe I should have done 1.5.

Name: David M.
Choice: Elephant
Comments: Think about how many tamed elephants you see around vs. tamed boars...You see A LOT more tamed elephants. This suggests to me that I might be more likely to tame an angry elephant than TWO wild boars. (Either that, or it suggests that animal trainers have been discriminatory in their taming practices and the Equal Domestication Opportunity Commission should be called to investigate. We'll go ahead and eliminate this possibility--for obvious reasons.) Because of this, I think I'll take my chances with the angry elephant. I could tame the elephant (and/or psychoanalyze it) and make money off of it giving rides to the tourists. (People will come anywhere--even a "gymnasium-sized room" such as the type often used as a place of confinement in hypothetical questions on college students' webpages--for vacation if you have the right advertising.
Name: Cleophus T Jenkins (John Taylor)
Choice: Elephant
Comments: Well OBVIOUSLY I would choose the elephant. Anyone that can't see why, well they just need help. (Kevin, you really need to come up with harder ones than this... I mean, it's obviously the elephant...)
Name: Noremac
Choice: Boars
Comments: Just like in the movies, when the boars charged at me from opposite directions I would dive out of the way at the last minute leaving them to collide with eachother knocking eachother's lights out. Man I have always wanted to try that

Choice: Elephant
Comments: what kind of a sick question is this???? i'm getting worried, kevin....
Name: Cliver
Choice: Boars
Comments: I smell bacon
Name: Jonathan
Choice: Elephant
Comments: The elephant is bigger and slower than the two wild boars. Since we are trapped in the gymnasium-sized room, the elephant wouldn't be as hard to keep up with as two wild boars after a while.

Choice: Elephant
Comments: An elephant is a lot bigger, and it could squash me with one stomp, but I think I could avoid one elephant more easily than 2 wild boars. That would be twice as hard.

Choice: Elephant
Comments: elephants are big, yes this would cause some trouble, but not as much as two small, quick, angry, nasty, boars. besides, i bet i could outrun an elephant (or at least until one of us droped from exhaustion) but the two boars could go different directions and i'd be in big trouble... but anyway, that's just me... :)
